When the 4th most populous county in Colorado needed support and connectivity for multiple voting sites, they turned to RCN. Deploying PNKs and providing NOC Support delivered a solution that met all the needs of Jefferson County.
Challenge
Election site connectivity and security have been hot-button issues – especially over the past few years. When Jefferson County, Colorado needed to connect its voting sites and surveillance cameras for early polling locations, it turned to RCN Technologies.
Solution
NOC Support and multiple PNKs were used for Jefferson County’s deployment. NOC Support enabled RCN’s team of in-house specialists to monitor devices remotely, while several PNKs provided secure connectivity in urban and rural sites alike.

Faced with limited resources, Jefferson County needed a solution that could be deployed rapidly and maximize the use of their time and resources. The combination of PNK and NOC Support delivered exactly that.
Connecting with a Network In a Box
The PNKs were easy to deploy and helped optimize each site’s connectivity, allowing for the rapid deployment of election sites. For precincts with multiple sites, the “set it and forget it” nature of the PNK is essential to being able to connect every election site in a timely manner. But the benefits aren’t limited to IT staff – polling location volunteers can also see improved functionality post-PNK deployment.
The turnkey nature of the PNK enables volunteers to focus on supporting voters rather than worrying about complex routers and modems. After provisioning from RCN’s in-house team, the PNK only needs the press of a button to activate and begin connecting devices. This is a stark contrast from competing devices that need to be updated and/or configured onsite.
The PNK is lightweight, weighing in at just under fourteen pounds. This simplifies deployments even more, as volunteers of all backgrounds can pick up and move the PNK to an optimal location if needed.
Election Monitoring & Support with NOC
As their own IT staff reached workload capacity, the County needed to be able to rely on RCN to connect and support multiple precincts simultaneously. NOC support provided the necessary resources to remotely monitor and maintain each network and device while providing a direct line of support for on-site staff to access anytime. NOC also helped the County deploy, optimize, and maintain each voting site with ease.
In addition, NOC support provided peace of mind that their networks would remain secure and operational throughout the course of the election. NOC staff were able to monitor any activity on the network as well as detect anomalies in real time. This capability was invaluable in ensuring votes were cast accurately without disruption or interference from malicious actors.
NOC support also enabled live surveillance camera monitoring over early voting locations, providing extra security when and where it was needed most.
