Established in 2014, Keysight Technologies is a producer of electronic testing and measurement equipment. Leveraging cutting-edge technology, one of the cornerstone services rendered by Keysight is an RF (Radio Frequency) signal evaluation. This service allows business owners to find the precise level of connectivity around their prospective location, thereby helping owners determine if the location is viable.
Challenge
With customers located across the United States, it’s imperative for the Keysight Technologies team to be able to deliver an accurate, reliable signal test.
If their data was off, customers could spend hundreds of thousands of dollars for a location that couldn’t support their needs.
Solution
To provide a connection for the equipment used for testing, Keysight technicians were forced to carry a router and antenna in a box filled with loose cables.
Not only was this cumbersome and unreliable, but it also didn’t convey the professional look Keysight wanted to achieve.
Standardizing Keysight’s Connectivity
Keysight understood that as the company grew, their current connectivity solution would become more and more unreliable at scale.
With the help of RCN’s PNK, Keysight technicians were able to standardize their connectivity and maintain a professional look while in the field.
The PNK was comprised of a Cradlepoint R1900, AG97 antenna, LED battery life indicator, and an accessory pouch that included a standard wall and vehicle charger. Essentially, the PNK was an upgraded, enterprise version of what Keysight’s technicians had been carrying in the field already.
Upholding the Keysight Standard
As a company generating over $5 billion in revenue in 2022, Keysight holds itself and the services it offers to a very high standard.
Part of that standard is maintaining professionalism at all times – even in the field. The PNK allows its team to do just that.
Enclosed in a sleek, ruggedized case, every PNK variation weighs under 20 pounds and is easy to carry into the field. Every Kit is delivered pre-configured and ready to connect out of the box.
To connect in the field, Keysight technicians didn’t even have to open the Kit. All that was required was a single button press on the outside.
Compact Enterprise Grade Performance
In its previous solution, Keysight had chosen to use a more affordable router, rather than a performance-based device.
After reviewing Keysight’s needs, RCN recommended the PNK Pro, which houses an internal Cradlepoint R1900. After the initial PNK demo, Keysight’s team was so impressed that they requested additional funding to ensure they could move forward with the project.
Additionally, because the Keysight team is constantly traveling, the PNK’s compact form factor allowed them to take the Kit on flights as a carry-on, rather than paying for shipping each trip.
A Look Inside the Solution
Ruggedized Case
The PNK’s robust enclosure boasts an IP64 rating, safeguarding it from everyday bumps and scratches that would typically knock a router offline.
Furthermore, the case is completely weather resistant, which allows teams in the field to continue using the device in light to moderate rain.
Cradlepoint R1900
The R1900 outperformed Keysight’s old router in every way. With a much faster upload and download speed, finding the right device was an easy decision.
Every R1900 sold by RCN includes a Cradlepoint NetCloud subscription, which helps provide streamlined configuration and continuous cloud, modem, and router feature enhancements.
AG97 Antenna
The AG97 Series is one of RCN’s favorite antennas to use with the PNK. Offered in both 7-in-1 and 5-in-1 configurations, it facilitates 5G coverage up to a football field in length – even when the PNK is fully closed.
Wireless WAN Ecosystem
Keysight required a partner prepared to offer more than just a solution; they needed someone who would be ready to support them at a moment’s notice.
